چکیده

We present Monte Carlo simulations of the Diffuse Hα Galactic Background. Our models comprise direct and multiply scattered Hα radiation from the kpc scaleheight Warm Ionized Medium and midplane H II regions. The scattering is off dust that is assumed to be well mixed with the gas, with an axisymmetric density distribution taken from the literature. The results of our simulations are all-sky Hα images that enable us to separate out the contributions of direct and scattered radiation. We also determine how far the model Hα photons have traveled, i.e., how far we see into the Galaxy at Hα. Our models reproduce the overall characteristics of the observed Hα background and predict the scattered Hα intensity at high latitudes is in the range 5% to 20% of the total intensity, in agreement with estimations based on [S II]/Hα and [O III]/Hα line ratio measurements. The polarization arising from dust scattering of Hα from midplane H II regions is predicted to be less than 1% at high latitude.

Among the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) that have suffered type mutations, the classically classified Seyfert 2 NGC 7582 recently found at a Seyfert 1 stage, is perhaps one of the most puzzling cases, since it defies a well supported case for unification. We investigate the possibility that this type transition, common to other 12 AGN, is driven by supernovae (SN) exploding in a nuclear/circumnu...

We report 0. ′′ 5 × 0. ′′ 9 resolution, interferometric observations of the 1.3 mm CO J=2→1 line in the infrared luminous galactic merger NGC 6240 2. About half of the CO flux is concentrated in a rotating but highly turbulent, thick disk structure centered between the two radio and near-infrared nuclei. A number of gas features connect this ∼500 pc diameter central disk to larger scales.

New additional equations for the Newtonian dynamical systems on Riemannian manifolds are found. They supplement the previously found weak normality conditions up to the complete normality conditions for Newtonian dynamical systems.

We suggest new evolutionary scenarios for non-magnetic short orbital period CVs. The first model is the analogy of the 'hibernation scenario' or the 'modern hibernation scenario'. The second one is an extension of Mukai & Naylor (1995) ideas. All models imply a tight connection between permanent superhump systems and classical novae. We highlight the significance of the observed evolution of V1...
